Well like it says at the top, it’s just about a bloke riding home. Actually, it’s now about a bloke who rode home as I’m happy to announce that I made it! Melbourne Australia to Birmingham England, 5 excellent months in 2014.
The route I took was as follows: A quick ride round Australia then sea freight to Korea. A quick ride around Korea prior to taking the ferry to Vladivostok. From there cross the Russian Federation, drop into Mongolia, Khazakhstan (where I was arrested and deported 4hrs later!), Russia again and then into Europe. It wasn’t too cold so I dropped into Norway and up to the most Northern point of Europe.
Here’s how it looks on the map:
Planning wise this was the easiest route as the number of visas required was minimal, plus there was no need to have a Carnet de Passage for the bike. I didn’t want to go to any countries with “Stan” in the name but I was seduced by the close proximity of Khazakhstan. I should have stuck to my original plan!!
The blog runs backwards as you scroll down, which is kind of confusing. If I ever get round to it I’ll re-order the whole shebang and put it into a separate page.
We await your arrival in Perth, Western Australia.
WOW, I wanted to do this many years ago 1970 with a good Aussy friend of mine, Dave Upson RIP mate. From England to Australia. All the best mate.
It was nice meeting you yesterday, outside the hostel. Have a safe trip home! It should be interesting to know if you took the polish route or not. Regards
